Cost Estimator Intern

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Matric (Grade 12) N4-N6 Certificate in Electrical Engineering Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Advantage) Work integrated Learning (WIL) Letter PREFFERED MEMBERSHIPS: None JOB PURPOSE: To support our estimating team in developing accurate and competitive cost projections for electrical & Engineering tender projects. Assist in bidding or determining the price of electrical/industrial tenders/projects. This internship provides hands-on experience with real-world projects and the opportunity to contribute to various stages of the pre-construction and budgeting process. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: At least 1 years of formal estimating experience on industrial electrical projects. Dependability measures how well employee complies with instructions and performs under unusual circumstances; consider record of attendance and punctuality KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Project Assessment: Assist in the early-stage evaluation of project requirements by reviewing client specifications, design criteria, and functional requirements for electrical and automation systems. Analyze project objectives, technical scope, and constraints to determine cost-impacting factors such as complexity, timelines, and custom integration needs. Support feasibility assessments and help identify major cost drivers, potential risks, and value-engineering opportunities in proposed electrical and automation solutions. Cost Estimation: Support the development of accurate cost estimates for electrical systems based on engineering plans and design concepts. Research unit prices for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor work specific to electrical systems. Assist in preparing preliminary and final cost estimates for projects, including budgets for design, procurement, installation, and commissioning. Bid Preparation: Assist in preparing and assembling bid packages, including technical scope, pricing sheets, clarifications, and commercial terms. Assist in building most of the proposal / tender documents from existing generic content in consultation with the engineering team, sales team, projects team and management. Understanding design and installation requirements from documents (drawings, specifications, correspondence, etc) Ensuring compliance to tender administrative and mandatory requirements Review of CVs, Qualifications, References and Certificates to align to mandatory tender requirements Help identify bid risks, exclusions, and assumptions, and prepare documentation for management review before submission. Ensure that the bid process is followed, and proper templates are used Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to define project scopes, timelines, and budgets. Liaison with customers, partners & suppliers (Understand Requirements of customers/partners Suppliers) Prepare and maintain a directory database of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all electrical designs and estimates comply with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations.
