Economic and Social Research Council Senior Data Analyst - UKRI Research & Development Missions (RDMP) Hub Salary: £45,272 Hours: Full time or Part time (minimum 0.8 FTE) Contract Type: Open-Ended Location: Polaris House, Swindon, Wiltshire Grade: UKRI Band E Context: The Research & Development Mission Programme (RDMP) is a new, targeted UKRI programme designed to support the Governments National Missions and support delivery of the milestones in the Governments Plan for Change. The primary objective of the RDMP is to fund targeted research and innovation (R&I), including technology development, to solve critical problems unique to each mission to improve peoples lives and create growth. An initial investment of £25 million was announced in the autumn budget, with UKRI leading, in partnership with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and Government Mission teams, on focussed Research and Innovation (R&I) Challenges to respond to and develop solutions for the Problems in each Mission. Job Purpose: ESRC, as the council supporting the UKRI coordinating team, are seeking a Senior Data Analyst to support the UKRI RDMP Hub. As Senior Analyst, you will be responsible for managing the Hubs data sources and producing analysis and reports on individual Mission programmes as well as the RDMP as a whole. You will be a source of information and truth to colleagues and stakeholders across the RDMP and will work to continuously improve the RDMPs analytical capabilities. Key Responsibilities: To achieve this, you will be responsible for managing activities in the following areas. This is not a comprehensive list, and we may require that you adapt to, and undertake, other duties within the UKRI RDMP Hub commensurate with the level of responsibility of this post (especially while the Hub is under development). Data management and publication You will manage the collation and analysis of data relating to the individual programmes within the RDMP as well as the programme as a whole. This will include preparation of analytical reports and corresponding datasets. You will manage the programmes primary data sources and collaborate with individual Mission teams, and data teams across UKRI, to ensure these are accurate, reliable and well-maintained. Analytical support You will provide analytical support to members of the RDMP Hub and the individual Mission programmes, providing advice and responding to data requests as required. As part of this you will also be responsible for providing key metrics which will inform the Hubs strategic business cases, reports, and other publications. You will also provide ad-hoc modelling support using a variety of analytical and statistical methods. Management of data tools You will work to develop technical solutions for the Hubs data reporting needs, including bespoke tools where possible such as analytical dashboards. You will maintain and further develop these in response to evolving business needs. Stakeholder interaction and collaboration You will respond to requests for data concerning the RDMP including those from external stakeholders and regulatory bodies. You will also collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders in order to build new connections and continuously improve the analytic capability of the RDMP Hub. Key Relationships: You will develop and maintain effective working relationships with: UKRI RDMP Hub Senior Leadership Team, including the Programme Director, Head of Programme Management, Head of Strategy, and Head of Engagement Research & Innovation (R&I) Challenge Directors Council Delivery Leads Data and analysis teams across UKRI ESRC Executive Chair, and other UKRI Executive Chairs Oversight Board Government Missions teams Shortlisting and Interview Criteria: Essential: A relevant degree or equivalent work experience in statistics, data science, economics or highly numerate subjects. Experience of managing data, producing analysis and communicating this to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Familiarity with a range of statistical and data science methodologies and techniques. Practical knowledge of data quality, validation and verification. Technical experience of analysing data using tools such as SQL, R and/or Python. Strong and effective communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to work effectively as part of a team. Excellent work planning and organisation skills. Desirable: Experience of managing data and providing analytical support in a relevant policy, government, or research and innovation context.
