Are you someone who cares deeply about achieving high standards, and helping to make beauty and history accessible to all? If so, you could become a Collections and House Officer at Canons Ashby, bringing to life the history and significance of this much-loved place. You’ll work three or four days a week – Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays each week, with some Mondays, weekends and bank holidays, and flexibility to cover holidays would also be welcome. This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year. What it's like to work here Canons Ashby is an Elizabethan manor set in beautiful 18th century gardens. This quirky property has a homely feel with a close-knit team who pride themselves on providing an excellent visitor experience. If you’re a committed team player with great interpersonal skills, this magical property could be the place for you. What you'll be doing As a Collections and House Officer, you’ll be responsible for opening the house every day, and making sure there are enough people in the right places to give visitors a consistently great experience. You’ll make sure our House Experience Volunteers are happy and that everything’s running smoothly. Supervised by a Collections and House Manager, you'll be responsible for routine conservation, preventive conservation and the annual programme of deep cleaning. Your attention to detail and expertise will help to ensure excellent standards of care throughout the house. You'll collect and record information to improve our knowledge and understanding of the house and all that’s in it. You’ll use preventive conservation methods to improve how we look after everything, and how we present it to visitors. You’ll also be part of the duty management rota, making sure the property is open and ready to receive visitors, checking on all departments throughout the day, and problem solving if anything unexpected arises. You might be required to help in the tea room or the car park on busy days, so you’ll need to be willing to turn your hand to anything. At the end of the day you’ll make sure the property is closed up safe and sound and everything’s ready for tomorrow.
