Purpose of the role Colas Ltd. have an exciting opportunity for a Street Lighting Electrician Apprentice to join our ITS team, based in Peacehaven, BN10 8AP. The Street Lighting Electrician Apprentice will generally be working on the Brighton & Hove Street Lighting Maintenance Contract, working on behalf of the City Council. However, we have a variety of sites around the country and there will be opportunities for development on other projects. The apprentice will work alongside other engineers including qualified electricians delivering routine maintenance, equipment installation and reactive fault repairs. The Apprentice will be responsible for safeguarding the welfare, health and safety of themselves and those working around them. Working hours will be 40 hrs a week during the day, Monday to Friday. On this apprenticeship programme you will work towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification aligned to your role as a ITS Street Lighting Electrician. The duration of the apprenticeship and course will be 2 years and you will be required to attend college in Eastbourne on day release to achieve a Level 2 Installation and Maintenance Electrician qualification. If you have received a level 2 in an Electrician qualification then you will be able to do a level 3 with us. You will also be required to attend and participate in additional training events in relation to Health & Safety and any task specific courses as required by the role. Please note, any applicants who already have an Electrician level 3 or above qualifications will not be eligible for this apprenticeship. Main Responsibilities As a Street Lighting Electrician Apprentice your duties will include: Assisting in delivering street lighting maintenance, fault identification and repair, maintain accurate records and report to the street lighting supervisor on progress, identify any opportunities to management to the benefit of Colas and their customers, liaise enthusiastically with key supply chain partners, other areas of Colas and with our client to deliver exceptional service levels, assist with delivering elements of the maintenance requirements plan that are assigned to them, adopt a forward-thinking approach by identifying potential innovative techniques for the delivery of maintenance and highlight these to management. You will be required to perform other duties as may be reasonably required. You will be responsible for Health and Safety in the workplace, setting a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of and compliance with general Health and Safety responsibilities. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have a minimum Grade 4/C or above in GCSE Maths and English. If you are a college/school leaver who is looking to kick start their career as an Electrician, we want to hear from you. You will be computer literate and fully conversant with MS Office suite, you will be a confident, articulate individual who will work great in a team and on their own. You will need to be comfortable working at heights and be prepared to work outdoors in all types of weather.​ A full UK driving licence is desirable.
