Job Description
I'm currently working with a forward-thinking environmental consultancy that's looking to strengthen its Ecology & Biodiversity team with the addition of a Principal Consultant or Associate Director. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced ecologist who’s ready to take on a strategic leadership role while continuing to make a real-world impact on projects across Scotland. Location: Flexible, with the ability to attend the Grangemouth office at least once a week. Qualifications: A BSc and/or MSc in Ecology or a related field Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM) Essential Experience & Skills: Proven experience in line management or leading technical teams Confident reviewing tenders, fee proposals, and technical reports Strong client communication skills – particularly explaining complex ecological issues in plain language A sound understanding of the Scottish planning system Experience managing budgets and contributing to project success Ability to build client relationships through reliability and delivery A natural mentor who enjoys supporting junior team members Desirable (but not essential): Holders of protected species licences (e.g., bats, badger, otter, great crested newt, Schedule 1 birds) Ornithological survey and mitigation experience Experience liaising with statutory stakeholders (e.g., NatureScot, SEPA, local planning authorities) A creative mindset for solving novel ecological challenges What’s on offer: Alongside a competitive salary package based on experience, this role comes with a suite of attractive benefits including: Professional membership subscriptions covered Bespoke internal and external training and CPD 33 days holiday (including public holidays) with options to buy or sell days Employee Assistance Programme for wellbeing support Volunteer day allowance for a cause you care about Flexible parental leave options Cycle to work and electric vehicle schemes Employee referral incentives
