Job Description Join Glasgow’s Education Services Team Position: Graduate Apprentice Child Development Officer Location: Glasgow City (various positions) Hours : 35 hours across 5 days – 52 weeks Annual Salary: £24,183.81 - £25,716.37 Contract: Fixed term, up to 3 years Are you looking for a career in Early Years, working with our young children? We’re recruiting Graduate Apprentices for our Early Years Programme starting in September 2025. About the Role: Our Graduate Apprenticeship Programme allows you to work in an Early Years Establishment whilst completing the necessary qualifications for the role. Your time will be split between experiential learning in a practical role in a nursery setting for 4 days and attending university for 1 day a week. Whilst in the nursery you will be a key member of the nursery team, working with children and alongside colleagues, building positive working relationships and promoting positive behaviour in line with policy. You will assist in the recording and reporting on children’s progress and support effective delivery of the Early Years curriculum, including outdoor play. In all our roles you will assist and support Early Years colleagues in the delivery of a high standard of education whilst actively supporting and assisting in the delivery of an inclusive and diverse Early Years service. Key Responsibilities: Building positive working relationships with children within the nursery whilst actively supporting and promoting positive behaviour. Supporting and assisting with the delivery of the Early Years curriculum inclusive of outdoor play and learning. Assist in the development and implementations of plans and programmes to ensure the needs of all service users are met Supporting and assisting in the delivery of a high-quality lunch-time experience assist with the personal care for children including comfort, support and appropriate intervention for minor accidents Maintain confidentiality at all times Work as part of the Early Years team in partnership with all relevant stakeholders i.e. parents/carers, health professionals etc. What We Seek: To be eligible for the programme, you must meet the minimum course entry requirements: BBBC (102 UCAS Tariff points) plus National 5 English. A Foundation Apprenticeship will be considered towards entry requirements. Or CCC (63 UCAS Tariff points) plus National 5 English at Grade C or above Alternative Minimum Entry Requirements CC (42 UCAS Tariff points), plus National 5 English at Grade C or above, PLUS successful completion of one of the following: UWS Foundation Academy Foundation Apprenticeship UWS Next Steps to University module Routes for All Top-Up LEAPS An appropriate National Qualification in Childhood Practice or equivalent An appropriate Modern Apprenticeship 1 year of sector specific work experience at a level equivalent to the point of entry. You will have good communication skills and the ability to be an effective team member who can assist and support colleagues. You will be able to provide a high standard of care for children, remain calm in challenging situations, and be empathetic, flexible and reliable. You will have a flexible approach with the ability to use initiative. You will have the ability to assist in the delivery of the Early Years curriculum. Commitment to study and to attain the necessary practical experience to gain the BA in Early Learning and Childcare (SCQF Level 9) within 3 years. The preferred candidate will be required to obtain membership of the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check, prior to formal offer of employment being made. The preferred candidate will be eligible for SSSC membership.
