This is a position with grade 13 This position reports to R&D Team Lead Your role and responsibilities We are looking for an R&D HW Engineer to join the Research and Development - Special Circuit Breaker Team based in Dalmine (IT). The role involves developing and integrating embedded electronics for advanced Medium Voltage circuits within our Electrification business. The work model for this role is LI-Hybrid. This position contributes to the Distribution Solutions Division within the Electrification Business Area in Dalmine. You will be mainly accountable for: Designing hardware architecture and technical details, simulating circuits, and developing electronic projects with a focus on analog, power supply, and power electronics. Optimizing designs by identifying technical, architectural, and circuitry solutions, ensuring high integration with other product components (mechanical, control, sensors). Developing prototypes, implementing drawings, preparing project documentation (from pre-feasibility to detailed design), conducting preliminary tests for design validation, analyzing product quality and reliability, debugging prototypes, and collaborating on control firmware integration. Preparing technical documentation for production and supporting product maintenance activities. Collaborating closely with other functions, suppliers, and external partners for hardware-related services as needed. Qualifications for the role Master’s Degree in Electronic Engineering Up to 5 years of experience in embedded hardware design in industrial applications Proficiency with laboratory instruments for studying, debugging, integrating, and testing prototypes; experience with power supply design, signal integrity, and analog signal conditioning/filter stages Experience with EMI design and troubleshooting Knowledge of oscilloscopes, function generators, and other test equipment; familiarity with electronic board rework Knowledge of PCBA manufacturing processes is a plus Proactive attitude, innovative mindset, strong negotiation and networking skills Fluent in English and Italian, both written and spoken Positive attitude, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and a results-oriented approach, suitable for local and international contexts More about us ABB's Distribution Solutions Division enhances the efficient and reliable distribution, protection, and control of power, improving electric power quality and grid resilience.
