Job Description

Advert Renfrewshire Council is proud to support the award-winning Team Up to Clean Up campaign—a nationally recognised, community-led initiative that encourages residents and volunteers to take pride in their neighbourhoods and contribute to a cleaner, greener Renfrewshire. To support this important work, we are currently looking to recruit a skilled and dedicated Neighbourhood Services Driver Operative to join our frontline team. Based at Underwood Road Depot, you will play a key role in the collection and safe disposal of waste gathered by Team Up to Clean Up volunteers across the Renfrewshire area. As the driver of a Council vehicle, you will be responsible for transporting operatives and collected waste efficiently and safely, ensuring the highest standards of service delivery. You will also take part in wider litter picking operations and environmental improvement work alongside your team, supporting both scheduled and responsive clean-up activity across the region. This is a dynamic and rewarding role that requires effective communication skills, a flexible approach, and a commitment to high standards. You will be expected to work closely with members of the public, volunteers, and colleagues, acting as a representative of the Council and the Team Up to Clean Up campaign. Experience manual work including labouring duties is essential, along with a full and valid UK driving licence suitable for the operation of Council vehicles. You should be prepared to work in all weather conditions. A flexible attitude is key, as the role may involve working across different locations and assisting with a range of Streetscene operations depending on the needs of the service. Experience of dealing with the general public and business community and a valid First Aid at Work Certificate or willingness to work towards is essential. Knowledge of health and safety practices and experience working as part of a team in a similar environment is desirable. You will be required to work a 4 on 4 off shift pattern. Please note that if you are successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check. The level of check will be determined based on the duties of the post.
