MGS India has been set up as a Global Capability Centre / Centre of Excellence to provide support services across various functions such as IT, KYC/ AML, Credit, Operations etc. to MUFG Bank offices globally. MGS India has plans to significantly ramp-up its growth over the next 18-24 months while servicing MUFGs global network across Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific Position Title: Senior Database Engineer and Architect Corporate Title: Assistant Vice President Location: Bengaluru Job Profile Position details: The Database Engineer is primarily responsible for patch management, applying patches, and vulnerability scanning of database systems to support the organization's applications and services. This role involves ensuring the security, reliability, and performance of database components, as well as collaborating with various teams to support application deployment and maintenance. Over time, the engineer will also learn to manage middleware patching and vulnerability scanning. Roles and Responsibilities: Patching and Vulnerability Management (Primary Focus): Develop and implement a patch management strategy for database systems, with a primary focus on Oracle, IBM DB2, and MS SQL Server. Additionally, manage patching for other database products such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB. Regularly perform vulnerability assessments and apply patches to mitigate identified risks. Test patches in a segregated environment before deployment to ensure compatibility and stability. Apply patches in a timely manner based on the criticality and priority of the updates. Document all patching activities and maintain records of the versions in use. Database Management: Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database systems, particularly Oracle, IBM DB2, and MS SQL Server. Manage other database products such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB to ensure smooth operation and performance. Ensure the smooth operation and performance of database components, including backup and recovery processes. Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor database environments using tools like Splunk and Zabbix to ensure high availability and performance. Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly to minimize downtime. Security and Compliance: Implement and manage security measures for database environments. Ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry standards. The role requires handling audit responses and addressing internal processes, not limited to Singapore and India. Collaboration and Support: Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to support application deployment and maintenance. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff. Hands-on Work and Administration: Perform hands-on work in database setup, configuration, and maintenance. Manage administration and operational tasks related to database environments. Task Management and Scheduling: Manage personal tasks and schedules effectively to meet project deadlines. Update and create Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) for project planning and tracking. Issue Resolution and Escalation: Resolve database-related issues promptly and efficiently. Properly escalate unresolved issues to higher-level support or management as needed. Documentation: Create and update explanatory documents, including technical guides and operational procedures. Gradual Learning for Middleware Management: After onboarding, gradually learn to manage middleware patching and vulnerability scanning. Apply the same principles of patch management and vulnerability scanning to middleware environments. Job Requirements: Technical Expertise: Proficiency in database technologies, with a primary focus on Oracle, IBM DB2, and MS SQL Server. Experience with other database products such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB. Experience with automation tools like Jenkins and Ansible. Monitoring and Security: Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Splunk and Zabbix. Understanding of security tools and practices, including McAfee Antivirus and Trend Micro solutions. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex database issues. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills to interact with various stakeholders. Team player with the ability to lead and mentor junior team members. Task Management: Ability to manage personal tasks and schedules effectively. Experience in updating and creating Work Breakdown Structures (WBS). Documentation Skills: Proficiency in creating and updating explanatory documents, including technical guides and operational procedures. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications in database management and security are a plus. Others: This role operates in the Singapore Time zone.
