Policy Manager: Energy Transition Minerals Initiative (F/H)
Job Location
Paris, France
Job Description
The Paris Peace Forum is a multi-stakeholder platform launched in 2018 that aims to respond to global challenges. Throughout the year, the Forum works to strengthen the governance of global commons such as climate, space or oceans, and to improve international management of global challenges, particularly those of digital and disruptive technologies. Its annual event brings together heads of state, government and international organizations, as well as leaders of civil society and the private sector, to discuss political initiatives and concrete projects, with an emphasis on the participation of the global South. The team of the permanent secretariat of the association, composed of varied and diverse profiles (diplomacy, public relations, communication, programming, operations, etc.), is currently looking for a Policy Manager “Global council for responsible transition minerals” to lead the work on transition minerals within the Policy team. Today, the collaborative response required to ensure responsible minerals for the energy transition is dramatically hindered by a complex and fragmented landscape. The demand for minerals – essential for the manufacture of green technologies, such as solar panels and electric vehicle batteries - is set to surge to meet net zero goals defined under the Paris Agreement. Yet, the current production capacity remains largely insufficient. At the same time, rising production is associated with a range of environmental and social impacts. This situation, combined with the current unprecedented geopolitical tensions, is hindering progress towards an effective and just energy transition. To respond to these challenges, the Paris Peace Forum launched in 2022 an initiative for a responsible transition minerals sector: the Global Council for Responsible Transition Minerals, a high-level, multistakeholder coalition representing international organizations, governments, civil society organizations and the private sectors, from across the Global North and South. This Global Council is supported by a multistakeholder group of experts, the Special Advisors. The person recruited will be responsible for leading the work of this initiative with the following tasks: PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Member engagement: Keeping members of the Council and Special Advisors’ groups engaged and on board with key decisions and deliverables regarding the initiative, including bilateral discussions, drafting of communications to members, preparing and potentially chairing coalition meetings, setting agendas and disseminating conclusions. Expanding the coalition: Recruiting new members of the Global Council and Special Advisors, particularly with a view to improving its diversity and representativeness. Representation : Representing the work of the coalition and initiative in relevant external fora and with external stakeholders, including attending events, presenting the initiative’s work, briefing decision-makers and leading on advocacy and external engagement efforts. Communications : Contribute to the promotion of the initiative and oversee the design and implementation of a communication strategy concerning its work. Produce and verify editorial content related to the Forum’s work on transition minerals, both for internal and external purposes. Fundraising : Support the fundraising teams on the initiative - this consists in the preparation of fundraising elements, specifically thematic value proposition, talking points and pitching, as well as participation in meetings with partners and recommending relevant contacts. Event organization : Collaborate with the PPF teams to organize portfolio-related activities in the run-up and during the Forum's annual event, including in relation to the Forum’s project support work. This also includes organizing side-events and potential webinars throughout the year to support the visibility of the initiative’s work. Management : Manage one or more PPF Policy Officers or intern within the transition minerals policy team, including supervision and providing regular feedback to their work.
