Job Description
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing powered equipment in the Distribution Centre. The Mechanic maintains powered equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, such as correcting vehicle deficiencies, making adjustments and alignments, and keeping records Responsibilities: Performs repairs and services on various types of material handling equipment and its components including forklifts, stackers, Reach Trucks, Order Pickers, Walkie Riders and pump trucks to ensure equipment is in safe and proper working condition Preventative Maintenance: Develop and follow a scheduled maintenance plan to prevent mechanical problems. Safety Inspections: Conduct safety inspections and ensure all equipment meets safety standards. Including Annual Lift Device Inspections (LDI). Documentation: Maintain records of all maintenance and repairs performed for each piece of equipment. Respond to breakdowns and emergencies: Act promptly to address breakdowns or emergency situations involving forklift trucks. Prioritize repairs based on urgency and impact on operations. Parts Replacement: Replaces defective or worn parts and ensure the proper functioning of the equipment. Reassembly of machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work Collaborates with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment. Sound knowledge of utilizing electronic manuals, use of digital voltage meters and applicable diagnostic software for repairing/servicing of material handling equipment. Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, compressors, pumps and turbines Clearly communicate completed tasks by means of producing a daily log (verbal / written/ computerized). Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts and supplies. Liaise with Parts provider(s) to ensure the correct parts are sourced in a timely manner. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications: College diploma and/or completion of a trade school certification or equivalent work experience. 3-5 years’ experience as an auto, forklift, heavy equipment or truck and coach mechanic. Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, Hydraulic and electrical systems of battery and Internal Combustion engine powered material handling equipment Knowledge of electrical and electronic principles Knowledge of Crown & Raymond equipment Knowledge of the use of electrical/electronic diagnostic tools/measurements Effective analytical and problem-solving skills Strong interpersonal, written and communication skills Ability to be flexible and work in a fast paced and changing environment Must have prior experience with using computers and possess basic computer skills Must be able to perform the physical demands of the position Demonstrate good housekeeping practices at all times to help maintain a safe work area Working Conditions: The Mechanic will work in a Distribution Centre environment and would be exposed to varying temperatures and subjected to dust, dirt, grease and noise levels ranging from moderate to loud. Frequently works in a crouched position or on back lying on mechanic’s dolly beneath motor vehicle equipment. Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds. Tools and Equipment Required: All tools and equipment required to perform all required maintenance and repairs are owned and provided by the Mechanic In the event additional tools and equipment are required, all costs associated with the purchase(s) will be the responsibility of the Mechanic The Company is not responsible for the repairs/replacement of the tools and equipment
