Instrument Technician

Employer : Leading Manufacturer (FMCG Food Production/Agricultural Sector) Salary: 385k pa to 700k pa Location: Bellville, Western Cape Shifts: 6am 6pm and 6pm 6am (The company is a 24hr Operation) MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE Analyze and interpret trends to resolve complex or chronic process failures, increasing uptime and reducing unplanned downtime. Be the custodian of condition monitoring, ensuring activities are carried out to the highest quality to improve equipment reliability. Maintain responsibility for equipment specifications and engineering standards. Support shutdown planning, execution, and post-mortem activities. Identify, motivate, and implement improvement initiatives and capex projects. Collaborate with Electrical Coordinator, Section Engineers, and Process Engineers in project design and execution in the mill. Comply with procedures; close out incidents and near-misses. Use PPE and maintain housekeeping standards. Follow permit to work and safe work procedures. Optimise Plant and Equipment Availability Ensure correct spares are available and quality checked. Participate in shut planning to optimize downtime usage. Conduct job observations to ensure safety and quality. Develop safe work and troubleshooting procedures. Support breakdown resolution through standby duties. Ensure lubrication tasks are completed to high standards. Continuous Improvement Drive and implement plant reliability improvements. Analyze failures and support RCA activities. Offer technical support to production, electrical, and instrumentation teams. Include past experiences in equipment design and upgrades. Participate in equipment modifications and daily meetings. Availability of Spares and Documentation Develop safe work and QC procedures. Identify and communicate mechanical spare parts needs. Lead spares criticality assessments and CMMS updates. Ensure spare parts are stored cleanly and safely. Provide Technical Support Participate in HAZOP studies. Respond to callouts and perform standby duties. Support technicians and engineers with plant issues. Manage in-house projects for cost, time, and quality.
