JOB SUMMARY
This is a 10-week summer internship from May 28 – July 31, 2019. The Fair Trade Intern will gain an understanding of Fair Trade business practices and operations by being a part of Dr. Bronner’s operations team. Each Fair Trade Intern will support Dr. Bronner’s business operations in one of the departments: Finance, Human Resources, Logistics, Operations Administration, Operations Services & Innovation, and Production Administration. Under direct and general supervision, the Fair Trade Intern will assist with the coordination and execution of the company’s activities under the direction of their Managers through individual project responsibility and administrative support. Interns will be assigned individual and group projects and research topics within their departments based on area of study/interest and current needs of the department. The Interns will participate as an active Dr. Bronner’s team member, providing support to ongoing departmental efforts and company special projects as needed. Below you will find the essential duties and responsibilities for each of the intern positions.

Finance / Accounting
The Finance and Accounting Internship position provides an opportunity for students who are currently pursuing an accounting degree to get hands on experience working with Financial systems (ERP), Data structure, and relational database. Student must have completed relevant courses in finance and accounting with a strong desire and motivation to develop a career as a future leader in the finance function. Must have strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Minimum requirements include familiarity with basics of accounting, SQL intermediate, strong Excel skills, and detail-oriented.
• Learn the Accounts Payable function by shadowing employees in the different A/P groups.
• Participate in the month-end close process: reviewing account balances, creating/posting journal entries, preparing reports and reconciling accounts.
• Research various accounting and process improvement topics and provide recommendations.
• Redesign and implementation of ERP User Permissioning.
• Design and development of new custom managerial financial reports.
• Design and implementation of automated expense tracking for existing Excel based applications.
• Document SOPS for various functions within Finance and Accounting.
• Assist Accounting as needed with daily functions.

Human Resources
This internship is an entry level position for a candidate looking to start their HR career. The primary responsibility for this position is to support the HR functions at Dr. Bronner’s. The ideal candidate will be pursuing a degree in Human Resources or related field. Minimum requirements include excellent communication skills, the ability to maintain high confidentiality, and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Will be exposed to all sectors of Human Resources – Benefits, Employee Engagement, Employment, Payroll, Safety & Training.
• Assist in customizing Dr. Bronner’s training & safety program via digital or print media.
• Assist with job descriptions and measuring competencies.
• Analyze data and create reports on recruiting methods and provide suggestions on expanding recruiting efforts.
• Assist in employee engagement program.

Logistics / Supply Chain Intern

• Analyze data and create reports of domestic and international multimodal transportation network.
• Developed assigned projects that will help you and the organization make better operational decisions.
• Ability to think on your feet to solve problems arising all day, every day that require immediate attention.
• Understand, in and out, the procedure and flow of warehousing operations.
• Support the coordination of a complex global supply chain network where odds are against you and there’s no guarantee of success.
• Having an understanding and passion for a multicultural environment, languages, international trade and current geo-political affairs is a must.

Operations Administration Intern

The focus of this internship position is specifically to provide assistance to those in our Operations Administration team (Ops Admin). The Ops Admin team is our interface between the real world of receiving, production and warehousing and the accounting system used to track and manage.

• Prepare paperwork for customer shipment needs.
• Help with inventory control including a companywide physical count.
• Transfer and reconcile inventory between warehouses.
• Issue purchase orders.
• Process purchase order receipts.
• Take the lead on a research project related to investigating inventory adjustments.


Operations Services & Innovation Intern

• Provide assistance with the coordination and paperwork preparation for the USDA National Organic Program facility organic audit.
• Provide support to the quality team by performing raw material and finished product laboratory sample preparation and submission, recording test results, and analyzing and filing third-party lab test results.
• Enter data and perform data fact checking within our Access-based label revision and packaging revision databases and physical sample files for all product labels.
• Take the lead on a research project analyzing the potential for Dr. Bronner’s to work with our contract manufacturers and domestic suppliers to advance domestic fair trade principles.
• Create a samples and materials testing calendar and storage system to improve space utilization in the offices and laboratory.

Production Administration Intern

The focus of this internship position is specifically to provide assistance to those in our Production Administration team. As Dr. Bronner’s is a manufacturing business, our Production Admin team is at the heart of what we do. This group oversees production, labor allocation, and scheduling for our major product lines.

• Schedule production runs based on multiple departmental parameters.
• Help with inventory control including a companywide physical count.
• Communicate with our shipping department to insure products are ready for on time shipments.
• Operate production equipment. This will teach the nuts and bolts of the manufacturing floor.
• Interface with other departments regarding immediate information or product needs.
• Take the lead on a project related to storing and cataloguing our label stock.
