Job Title: Communications Intern Department: Communications
Reports to: Communications Director Internship Dates: June 11th - August 31st 2024
Classification: Intern Weekly Hours Expectation: 15-20 per week

Job Summary:
As a Communications Intern at Vot-ER, you will play a pivotal role in crafting compelling narratives, persuasive messaging, and engaging content across various communication channels. Your strong writing skills and passion for storytelling will contribute to landing public relations pieces, OpEds, social media content, influencer collaboration, short-form video scripts, and more.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Narrative-Based Messaging: Develop persuasive and engaging narratives for a variety of communication materials, including press releases, OpEds, website content, and other written content. Tailor messaging to effectively communicate Vot-ER's mission and impact.
Public Relations Support: Collaborate with the Communications Director to support public relations efforts, including drafting press releases, media pitches, and talking points. Help secure media coverage to increase the organization's visibility and reach.
OpEd Development: Work with our Policy team to research, write, and edit OpEd pieces on topics related to healthcare, civic engagement, and public health policies. Craft well-structured arguments that promote Vot-ER's mission and values.
Social Media Content: Write and edit engaging and shareable content for social media platforms, capturing Vot-ER’s mission and encouraging audience interaction. Develop content calendars and strategies to increase engagement.
Short-Form Video Scripts: Collaborate with the creative team to write compelling scripts for short-form videos that align with Vot-ER’s messaging and resonate with the audience.
Storytelling: Craft impactful stories that highlight the organization’s impact and the experiences of individuals within the healthcare community. Use storytelling to connect with the audience on an emotional level.
Content Strategy: Assist in developing and executing content strategies that align with Vot-ER’s goals and resonate with the target audience. Ensure consistency of messaging across all communication platforms.

Job Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong writing skills and a passion for crafting compelling narratives, persuasive messaging, and engaging stories.
Interest in and understanding of public relations strategies, media relations, and OpEd development.
Experience in writing content for social media platforms and short-form video scripts.
An eye for detail and the ability to maintain consistent messaging and tone across various communication materials.
Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once
Consistently meet project deadlines through effective time management and prioritization.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
Familiarity with healthcare and civic engagement and voter access issues.
Demonstrated commitment to racial equity and inclusion.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to gain trust and give respect to others through honesty, integrity, kindness, empathy, and authenticity.
Acute attention to detail and demonstrated ability to prioritize time to meet deadlines for multiple projects.
Drive to seek what can be improved and offer ways to fix any potential roadblocks.
Comfort admitting what you don’t know and recognizing that feedback is part of the learning process.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least two years of undergraduate college completed (current Junior or Senior).

Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working at a computer.
Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.

Other Requirements:
Ability to travel a minimum of twice per year.
