Right now, natural gas companies are beginning to use a dangerous new mining process called deep well hydro-fracking here in Michigan. This process involves drilling 2 miles underground, and injecting millions of gallons of water and hundreds of toxic chemicals in order to obtain natural gas. In other states, we’ve seen hydro-fracking directly linked with drinking water contamination. We don’t want that same contamination in our water, or the Great Lakes! That’s why Clean Water Action is fighting for a moratorium on new hydro-fracking permits here in Michigan. Join the fight today! Clean Water Action is an organization with over 255,000 members in Michigan working to empower people to take action to protect America's waters, build healthy communities and to make democracy work for all of us. For 40 years Clean Water Action has succeeded in winning some of the nation's most important environmental protections through grassroots organizing, expert policy research and political advocacy focused on holding elected officials accountable to the public. As part of our staff, you would organize communities around environmental issues. Responsibilities include one-on-one communication, fundraising, dispersing information, and good record keeping. We are hiring for part-time student positions for the winter semester or long term work. We offer benefits and paid vacation, sick time and holidays. There is strong potential for growth within the organization. Candidates should be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. We look for candidates with strong oral and written communication skills and excellent attention to detail. It is important for candidates to have an interest in working to protect the environment.
